It is a steroid hormone from the androgen group. Testosterone fundamentally influences the formation of proteins from amino acids in muscle cells, known as protein synthesis. It is mainly produced in Leydig cells in the testicles, and is also partially produced by the adrenal glands. In women, it is produced by the ovaries. However, the amount is significantly lower than in men.
The right testosterone level in men is important for building muscle mass, burning fat more efficiently, and overall vitality. If testosterone levels are low, it can cause problems such as infertility, fatigue, depression, weight gain, or erectile dysfunction.
