Michael Strýc, a Czech shooter and experienced defensive shooting instructor, is preparing for one of the highlights of his shooting career – IPSC World Shoot 2025 Handgun, which will take place in South Africa. This prestigious world championship in practical shooting attracts the best shooters from around the world, and Michael doesn’t want to leave anything to chance. How is his preparation going and what does the journey to this exceptional competition entail?
IPSC: The supreme discipline of practical shooting
For those unfamiliar with IPSC (International Practical Shooting Confederation), it is a discipline that combines speed, accuracy, and strategic thinking. In competitions, shooters must hit targets of various sizes and distances as quickly as possible, often while moving or from difficult shooting positions.
Michael, who has been involved in this form of dynamic shooting for a long time, is no stranger to this world. His rich history of success in Czech and international competitions, including the World Championships in Bali (2nd place in teams) and the European Championships in Hungary (2nd place in teams), testifies to his determination and talent. However, IPSC World Shoot 2025 presents a whole new challenge—the competition is fierce, and every detail counts.
Shooting training: Nothing but perfection
Michael approaches his preparations with the military discipline he acquired during his time in the armed forces. Several aspects play a key role in his preparation for the World Shoot:
1. Training at the shooting range
Every day spent at the shooting range is an opportunity for Michael to improve his skills. He focuses on several key areas:
– Accuracy and speed: Every shot must be absolutely accurate, but also fast. Michael tests his ability to switch between targets of different distances and sizes.
– Tactics and movement: IPSC is not just about shooting, but also about strategy. Michael trains moving between obstacles, reloading behind cover, and shooting from difficult positions, such as lying down or kneeling.
– Model situations: He simulates competition situations to prepare for typical scenarios he will encounter at the championship.
„Každá chyba na střelnici je příležitost se zlepšit. Na světovém šampionátu si ji však už nemůžu dovolit,“ říká Michael.
2. Technical facilities
Pro špičkový výkon je nutné mít dokonalou výbavu. Michael pravidelně testuje svou zbraň, ladí spoušť, kontroluje mířidla a zkouší různé typy střeliva. Aby minimalizoval riziko technických závad, spolupracuje s odborníky na údržbu a přizpůsobení zbraní.
Gym training: Physical preparation as the basis for success
Shooting sports are not just about guns and targets – they also require top physical condition. That’s why Michael spends several days a week in the gym, working on his strength, endurance, and mobility.
1. Fitness training
Michael focuses on cardio and interval training, which help him maintain a high level of energy during demanding competitions. Speed and movement between stations in IPSC is not possible without good physical condition.
2. Strength and stability
Stability is key in dynamic shooting. Michael mainly strengthens his core muscles, which help him maintain a firm stance when shooting at targets in various positions. He also emphasizes training his shoulders and arms, which is necessary for precise weapon control throughout the competition.
3. Flexibility and mobility
The IPSC discipline requires shooting from a variety of unconventional positions, such as from behind obstacles or lying on one’s side. Michael therefore includes stretching after each training session to maintain mobility and prevent injuries.
Mental preparation: Calm amid chaos
In addition to physical and technical preparation, Michael also focuses on mental resilience. IPSC competitions are extremely stressful—time is ticking, milliseconds matter, and every mistake can be fatal.
“You have to keep a cool head. Even if something goes wrong, you can’t let it throw you off. It’s a game of concentration,” explains Michael.
That’s why he regularly practices breathing exercises, which help him manage stress and focus on the present moment.
What awaits Michael in South Africa?
IPSC World Shoot 2025 promises to be one of the largest and most demanding championships in history. Competitors will face challenging shooting situations in varied terrain, which will test not only their shooting skills but also their physical and mental preparedness.
However, Michael is looking forward to this challenge. “The World Shoot is the pinnacle for every shooter. I know I’m in for some tough competition, but I’m ready to give it my all. I want to show what I’m made of in South Africa,” he concludes with determination.
We’re rooting for you!
Michael Strýc is not only an inspiration for Czech shooters, but also proof that hard work and discipline lead to success. The entire Czech shooting world will be rooting for Michael to join the elite at the IPSC World Championship with his performance.
Whether it’s hours at the shooting range, days at the gym, or weeks of strategic planning, Michael shows that the road to the top is never easy—but it’s worth it.
